Somatic Counseling

I understand healing to be relational and ongoing. The trusting relationship that I cultivate with a client is essential as it becomes the safe container in which to explore. When I work with people I go beyond mental processing and bring curiosity about what is happening in a client’s body – this often yields a deeper embodied knowing. I guide you to notice how your body is communicating which might include, sensations, memories, gestures, movements, facial expressions, sighs, or impulses.

In my experience it often requires a variety of different approaches and techniques to facilitate change. My approach is anchored in safety and includes talking and experiential work. I draw on my training in adult education, mindfulness, neuroscience, somatic and spiritual psychotherapy, and yoga to help you access your true Self.

When we work together I will meet you exactly where you are at. In addition to talking, photography, poetry, music, movement, breathing, and meditation can be included in sessions, depending on the client. I meet clients with humility and curiosity and don’t take lightly the courage required to open one’s inner world.

I am committed to growth through ongoing professional educational, regular clinical supervision, rest, and play.

An Invitation to Brave Space

“Together we will create brave space
Because there is no such thing as a “safe space”—
We exist in the real world.
We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds.
In this space
We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world,
We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere,
We call each other to more truth and love.
We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow.
We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know.
We will not be perfect.
It will not always be what we wish it to be.
But
It will be our brave space together,
And
We will work on it side by side.”
